For too long, renters and leaseholders have faced rising costs and a lack of support. That is changing.

  • Renters rights – We are ending renter bidding wars, scrapping section S21 No-Fault evictions, and bringing in better standards for all private rented housing, tackling rogue landlords and substandard housing.
  • Ending leasehold and moving towards Commonhold – Labour is committed to abolishing leasehold, with clear path towards commonhold as the default system and ground rent reforms to stop exploitative fees.
  • Stronger protections against unfair fees – We’re introducing greater transparency on service charges & insurance costs, regulating managing agents, and ensuring leaseholders are not forced to cover freeholders’ legal fees in disputes.
  • Expanding Right to Manage from 3rd March 2025 – Leaseholders in buildings with up to 50% commercial space (up from 25%) can now take control of their building, with new protections against excessive legal costs imposed by freeholders.
