Manchester Labour is leading the charge to deliver more and better green spaces. All communities deserve green spaces to rest, relax, and reconnect with nature.

We’re ambitiously working for a green space revolution for our city centre. You can see results already.

  • New green spaces created: Whether Mayfield Park, Castlefield Viaduct, or New Jackson play area, we’re supporting new green havens. Now we’re creating a £32 million new city centre park, Ancoats Green.
  • New life breathed into existing parks: We invested £4 million in facilities and boosting biodiversity, like at Parsonage Gardens or Angel Meadow.
  • New trees planted: We’re striving to deliver 64,000 new trees by 2050 with new trees already on streets, new developments, and vacant land. We’re working with community partners to find even more sites for trees.
  • Community greening supported: We help local groups secure funds to improve green pockets including China Town’s Moon Garden, Castlefield Forum, or Northern Quarter Planters on Church Street.
  • Sustainability improved: We’re making green spaces more sustainable, from using recycled metal and restoring the River Medlock at Mayfield to switching Angel Meadow to eco-friendly LED lights.
“Beautiful parks full of life, tree-lined streets, and flourishing communities with access to green space is our hope for Manchester’s brighter, greener future.” Marcus Johns, Deansgate Councillor
