In 2018, you elected your Labour team to fight for more green spaces and improve existing ones. We are delivering on that promise. We are creating new green spaces, including the new 6.5-acre city centre park at Mayfield, pocket parks in Piccadilly Basin, at First Street, the Glade of Light next to Manchester Cathedral where the memorial for the victims of the arena attack will be placed, and large green space at Great Jackson Street near Castlefield.

Many of these like the Mayfield Park are under construction or due to start imminently like the Glade of Light.

We also work with residents and groups like the Castlefield Forum’s Roman Gardens Project or Friends of Angel Meadow, to provide funding and support to improve our existing green spaces.

Councillor Marcus Johns said: “Parks and green spaces are the essential lungs for our city centre. It is right to invest, and seek further investment, in new and existing green space. I am proud of our track record, fighting for tens of millions of pounds of investment in city centre green space and seeing new green space being built right now.”
