Deansgate Labour Your voice in Manchester City Centre
Deansgate Councillors were delighted to attend the opening of the first new city centre primary school in decades, Crown Street Primary School in New Jackson.
Crown Street Primary School will eventually accommodate 210 children in primary and 26 children in nursery provision.
To start with, 24 pre-school children and 30 reception children have started at the school, which will get progressively bigger each September with a new intake of children until today’s reception children reach Year 6 and the school is fully open.
Deansgate Councillors were thanked by the Council’s team and the Council’s Executive Member for Early Years, Children and Young People for campaigning for this provision for a number of years, in our work to make Manchester City Centre a place where everyone can live their whole lives with the right services to do so.
Marcus said: “It is an enormous privilege to have attended the opening of Crown Street Primary School after years of campaigning for this.
“From advocating at the Council’s executive to securing funding through the planning process, we have been doing all we can in recent years to see this through.
“We are so happy to see these efforts, then a building site, now become a school at the heart of our community in the city centre.
This is a fantastic facility for families from all corners of the city centre to enjoy, with a Head of School and academy trust that are have an unashamedly ambitious vision for their pupils to thrive.”
