At the first Council meeting of the year, Anthony McCaul took up his seat as the newly elected Deansgate Labour Councillor–after having secured 56.8 per cent of the vote in the local elections on the 4th May 2023 as the Labour Co-op Candidate.

Taking over from William Jeavons, Anthony is now one of your local Deansgate Labour Councillors, proud to represent you in the city centre.

Anthony said: “It was a huge honour to take my place representing Deansgate, after local residents elected me as their champion and representative in the last election. I have taken my seat as your new Labour Co-op Councillor at the first Council meeting of the year.

“Having completed my induction, I have hit the ground running, working hard for our residents and to improve our city centre every day with Marcus and Joan.”

At the first full Council of the year, your Deansgate Labour Councillors voted to re-elect Labour Councillor Bev Craig as the Leader of the Council, and Yasmine Dar was elected theis year’s ceremonial Lord Mayor. Meanwhile, your Deansgate Labour team were appointed to the following roles:

  • Anthony was appointed as a member of the Environment, Climate Change, and Neighbourhoods Scrutiny Committee
  • Marcus was re-elected Chair of the Economy and Regeneration Scrutiny Committee
  • Joan was appointed to the Resources and Governance Scrutiny Committee, Planning and Highways Committee, and Licensing Committees. Joan also became the Lead Member for Age Friendly Manchester.
