Andy Burnham, Marcus Johns, and Manchester Labour are proposing in their manifesto to create a new urban park in Castlefield using the unused Castlefield Viaduct

Andy Burnham has announced in his manifesto his pledge to work with Manchester City Council and the National Trust to develop Castlefield Viaduct into an Urban Park.

This is strongly supported by your local Labour Councillors Marcus Johns, Joan Davies, and William Jeavons.

The viaducts in Castlefield are crucial to the beauty and heritage of Castlefield. They are so iconic that they appear in many photos of Manchester, scenes filmed in Manchester, and even in a recent Pokémon game.

We love the idea of bringing one of the unused viaducts back into use, and making it a green, public space is a brilliant idea. Cities like New York and Paris have made a success of ‘high line’ parks, bringing former railways back into green use. Manchester can make this a sucess too.

Marcus said: “I back Andy’s plan for the Castlefield Viaduct and I’m happy he has listened to our calls for new green spaces for Manchester City Centre and our desire to bring our heritage back into use that celebrates it.”

“I look forward to supporting these plans in my second term as your local Councillor after the elections on Thursday 6th May and working with Andy Burnham, the Council, and local community groups to help get these plans delivered.”
